RESCCUE holds its 6th Project Committee Meeting in Porto

The RESCCUE consortium, made up by more than 40 members from 18 partners, gathered in Porto (Portugal) on November 26th and 27th to hold the 6th Project Committee Meeting. This two-day event, hosted by EDP Distribuiçao -RESCCUE partner- in their headquarters, was aimed at updating the project progress, from technical to strategic issues, as well as discussing other transversal topics, such as the project communication and management.

The first meeting day was opened by Carlos Silva Neto, from EDP Distribuiçao, and Pere Malgrat, Project Coordinator and Urban Drainage & Resilience Director at Aquatec - SUEZ Advanced Solutions. Malgrat announced his role change within the project due to his retirement and from now on, he will be part of RESCCUE’s Advisory Board, and Angel Villanueva, from Aquatec – SUEZ Advanced Solutions, will become the new RESCCUE Coordinator. The welcome words were followed by presentations of the progress of Barcelona, Lisbon and Bristol study cases and technical sessions and short pills on different Work Packages that served to present and discuss the main goals achieved and the next steps.

Once the plenary session ended, the attendees were divided into two groups. Some RESCCUE members visited the EDP Distribuiçao Dispatch Center. Meanwhile, different parallel sessions on the project’s research sites were carried out. Finally, the day ended with an institutional dinner, in which RESCCUE members had the opportunity to taste some Portuguese traditional dishes.

The second day also consisted in follow-up sessions from the remaining Work Package leaders, who also presented and discussed their achievements while some more short technical pills were presented. Moreover, the attendees had the opportunity to listen to Rafaela Matos, from LNEC, who presented the BINGO project, strongly related with RESCCUE.

Finally, during the last session, a discussion panel with the participation of representatives from Porto Municipality was carried out. After the presentation on the RESCCUE project by Marc Velasco, from Aquatec-SUEZ Advanced Solutions, Filipe Araújo, Porto City Council’s Vice President, and representatives from Águas do Porto, explained the many advances this Portuguese city has done in terms of urban resilience and risk prevention. Besides, the main strengths of each RESCCUE case study, along with RESCCUE inputs for cities and urban practices were discussed among all attendees. Lastly, Pere Malgrat was in charge of closing the plenary and took the opportunity to make his farewell to the consortium, which will meet again in June 2019 in Exeter.
